Got a call from someone claiming to be with Sky, saying we owed money for some kind of insurance on equipment we don’t even have with them. The guy said it’s a monthly fee and we were already being charged for it. Apparently, since we’re “valued customers,” we’d get a discount and only pay about £120. When I asked him to call back later so I could check the details, he got quite rude. He didn’t give up though and rang again the next day. Just a heads up, these types don’t back down quickly.

I didn’t bother saying hello when I answered the phone. Most of the time you can spot a scam cause the call comes in all robotic. When you pick up, it connects you to someone on the other end. Real people will say hello if you stay quiet. But if it’s a dodgy call, just say nothing and it usually hangs up on its own.

My elderly parents have been getting calls from a number pretending to be Sky - I think it’s the same one mentioned above. They’ve rung about 6 or 7 times, telling them they owe money and that the police will show up if it’s not paid. After reaching out to Sky, we found out it’s a scam.
