Following a rather alarming pop-up on my screen, accompanied by a persistent and rather irritating recorded message, I was informed that my computer had been compromised and that my personal data had been purloined for identity theft. The message prompted me to dial a UK phone number. Upon making the call, I was welcomed by a rather eloquent individual with an Indian accent, who then requested that I press certain keys on my computer.
