Today around half past three I got a couple of calls, the last one claimed to be from the Pensions Office and already had my first name. I asked to speak to the person he was after and questioned him about my surname, which he couldn’t provide. He mentioned something about upgrading my pension but I just hung up on him straight away.

Got a call from someone with a heavy accent who said they were with the ministry of justice checking on pensions. They asked if I had a personal or work pension. I wasn't comfortable answering and asked for his name, he said Michael. Then when I asked again for his full name he said Sam Parker instead. Told him that if he really worked for a government dept he should provide full details and a contact number. After about 7 minutes of back and forth, he gave up and ended the call.

Honestly, these lot are just bloody nuisances. Trick one - when they ask for your name and you say yes, just go quiet or put the phone down like they do. Trick two - feed them some fake bank info like account number 00012345, sort code 11.12.13, name Mr Sherlock Holmes, and chuck in something like 221b Baker Street, London for the address. They hate it when you mess them about, it’s just a pointless call for them in the end.

Today, I took a call from this number about some insurance refund for a loan I paid off ages ago. I just said "oh, thanks" and they hung up right after. They didn't really ask much apart from my name.

Got the typical call from some overseas call centre, probably India or Africa, where the person on the line barely knows English. They were trying to scam me into giving bank info for some fake compensation claim. Got a call today from a bloke with a really thick accent, sounded like he was from Africa or somewhere similar. He rattled off my full name, address and phone number, saying I'd qualify for a £1500 interest refund on a loan supposedly taken out back in 2006. Thing is, I never had such a loan. When I asked how he got my info and which bank this was about, he clammed up, saying it was a security thing and that I had to give my bank details to claim the money. Yeah, no thanks! After working in banking for over 20 years, I’m not falling for that. I told him I was always in touch with my bank and if there was any refund due, they’d have told me. Then I said I’d double-check with them myself - he just hung up on me. I used 1471 to check the number, called it back and got a message saying the number doesn’t exist. Totally a scam, if you ask me.

Got a phone call from someone speaking with an Indian accent saying I'd paid too much on a loan I apparently took a while ago. They couldn’t tell me who the lender was, and when I wouldn’t give out any info, the call just stopped suddenly. Definitely felt like a scam to me.

They keep ringing my number asking for my partner. When I tell them he’s not here, they ask if I’m Mrs E. I said no, I’m not, then they asked if I live at that address, and I said yes. They then wanted to know who Mrs E was, so I explained she’s my partner’s mum. They asked who I was, and I just played along asking who they were - felt like I was teasing the guy a bit. This number has called me multiple times. Since some of my family members share the same area code, I tried ringing it back thinking maybe one of them got a new phone number.
