Perform the traditional ctrl-alt-del action. When the next window appears, access the task manager and close down your current browser, like Google, or whichever browser you are utilising.

Please note that when you restart your browser, do not click on the option to resume from where you left off. Instead, start from the initial stage again.

I encountered pop-ups displaying a Black Friday message on my computer screen. The message warned that my credit card information might be at risk. Interestingly, I wasn't even using my credit card online at that time. I was simply browsing Twitter. In order to tackle the issue, I closed down my computer, restarted it, and ran a malware scan.

I cannot stress enough that this is simply a pop-up advertisement. It is highly unlikely for a virus to provide a phone number for a solution. I am not sure which browsers you are using, but if you are using Chrome, you will have the option to 'stop the page from running a script' when trying to close the window. Select this option and you will be able to close the window without any issues. It is always recommended to install highly-rated, free ad-blockers. If anyone above has made a payment, it may be necessary to contact the police or action fraud as you may have been scammed. While high-pressure selling tactics can be concerning, if they have convinced you that they have resolved a virus issue when it was only a pop-up, I remain skeptical.

These individuals are complete scoundrels. Upon receiving a virus popup window claiming that my hard drive would be deleted unless I contacted these criminals, I decided to give them a call. They deceitfully posed as Microsoft Support, which is far from the truth. Their intention was to extort money from me in order to supposedly fix the issue, while simultaneously stealing my personal information. It is vital to refrain from granting them any access to your computer! Luckily, I managed to resolve the problem on my own by deleting the user account, after making backups of my documents elsewhere. However, I do understand that this solution might be challenging for certain individuals.

I encountered a similar situation where a pop-up appeared instructing me to call within 5 minutes. Since I couldn't close it through regular means, I resorted to shutting down the computer using the power button. I reluctantly phoned the given number and the person on the other end asked how long the message had been displayed. They claimed to be located in Birmingham. I explained that I had already turned off my computer. They then advised me to switch it back on, which made me uncomfortable, leading me to end the call.
I am concerned that I may encounter such pop-ups again while visiting the same website. If this happens, how can I prevent it from occurring?

Kindest regards,
Louise Dayton

I encountered a similar pop-up warning, advising me not to leave the webpage due to a potential virus that could harm my computer. I quickly took action by pressing ctrl+alt+delete and shutting off my computer. I am currently running an AVG scan, and everything seems fine up until now.

I encountered a Pop Up notification indicating that there was a virus on my computer. Although I attempted to close the page, it persisted in reappearing. The message purportedly originated from Microsoft. In order to eliminate the issue, I took the initiative to shut down my computer by pressing and holding the power button until it turned off. Upon restarting the computer, the bothersome screen was no longer present.

My father encountered a similar situation today, on the 15th of September. He received a pop-up message on his laptop, which caused him to panic and he ended up calling the provided number. The scammer on the line attempted to sell him security software and persuade him to remove Mcafee from his laptop. Fortunately, my father refused to make any purchases, but unfortunately, he did allow them access to his laptop. However, we hope that they haven't caused any harm. It's quite puzzling that Mcafee didn't prevent this scammer from getting through, considering it should provide adequate protection.

On Friday, 9th September, I encountered a pop-up alert on my laptop warning me about a virus and threatening to wipe my hard drive within 5 minutes if I didn't call the provided number. This message purported to be from Microsoft, so I made the unfortunate decision to dial the number. Despite claiming to be based in Aberdeen, the person on the other end later confirmed that it was indeed the correct number. They proceeded to take control of my computer and offered me lifetime protection for £500. Feeling pressured and harassed, I made the unwise choice to pay. Now, I realize that I fell victim to a scam. Please do not be deceived by these individuals. Although they may show some form of identification, it is essential not to place trust in them.

Beware of this fraudulent number. Recently, my father encountered a deceptive pop-up on his computer, similar to what another user has mentioned. The message urged him to dial a specific number for IT support, supposedly serving as representatives of Microsoft, to assist with virus removal. Apparently, the call was routed to India. My father, feeling perplexed, unfortunately ended up paying £188 for some supposed virus protection. To be clear, I strongly advise against contacting this number under any circumstances.

I experienced the same issue on Friday, 9th of September 2016. I called the given number and was immediately approached with an attempt to sell me security services and convince me to uninstall MacAfee from my device. After a persistent sales pitch, they provided me with a direct contact number - 08000988800. The first person I spoke to was named Ross Dale, who had a foreign accent. Another person named Sid, who sounded quite similar, joined the conversation shortly after. They tried to offer me two separate packages for security, priced between £117 to £225.

I received a pop-up on my laptop instructing me to call a certain number, claiming to be from Microsoft. They asked if I conducted online banking and I immediately hung up the phone. However, I ran a scan on my laptop and everything seems to be functioning properly. I was surprised by my own impulsiveness in dialling the number.

Avoid calling this number at all costs! A friend of mine made the mistake of contacting them and allowing the person on the other end access to his laptop. They claimed to offer solutions for various issues, such as selling insurance and enhanced security. In the end, they demanded £74 from my friend. However, as soon as he ended the call, he discovered that his laptop was rendered completely unusable. It's clear that this is a scam operation, so it's vital to steer clear of this particular number.
