I just didn’t pick up since I’ve heard about these calls from mates and on the news. Looks like the plan is to make you ring them back so they can bill you for it.

What’s worked for me is just telling them I’m not the person they want and asking for a moment while I go get them myself. Usually I take the phone into the kitchen, leave it on the bench, then head back to the lounge. After a few rounds of that, they usually twig and stop bothering me. Another trick that really helps is saying the house belongs to the local council! I still get calls for the old tenant even though I’ve been here since June 2009, but once I say it’s a council property, the calls about double glazing, roofing, or central heating stop straight away. There’s no way I’m paying for that stuff on a place that ain’t mine! Good luck out there - calls from +44 1920 826020, anyone?

I answered a survey once and now they just don’t stop ringing my phone. They totally ignore when I say no, which is really annoying.
