I opted not to pick up as I already knew about these calls from the news and acquaintances. It seems like the strategy is to get you to return the call, which ends up costing you.

I've discovered a rather effective trick to fend off those persistent callers. When they ring, I simply inform them that I’m not the resident and need a moment to fetch them-while I actually just nip into the kitchen and leave the phone on the counter. After doing this a few times, they seem to catch on eventually. Another clever tactic is to mention that it’s a LOCAL AUTHORITY property! I'm still receiving calls meant for the previous occupant, despite having resided here since June 2009! However, this strategy definitely curbs any further interruptions, especially when I resolutely declare that I won't be investing in double glazing, new roofing, or central heating for a place that doesn't belong to me!
