I decided to hang up and called the Postcode Lottery myself, and they confirmed it was a scam they’re investigating. Then today, they switched it up to a PPI tax refund offer. I asked her which company she was from, and she said “ISmart” - sounded like a mobile phone shop, definitely not linked to PPI claims as far as I know. I got a call from a guy who then handed me over to a woman with what sounded like an Asian accent. She claimed to be from HMRC and said they were going to give me some PPI compensation. She started asking for my bank info. I told her to just post me a cheque instead, but she kept pushing for the details. This caller kept pressing me about being a taxpayer, even though I never claimed to be the person they said they were after. They kept talking about owing 15% tax on 10 million or something like that. Whenever I threw simple questions at them, like "what's 2 plus 2", they just ignored them.
