6 yearsHad a very persistent lady on the line today, wanted to chat with our Executive Chairman. I asked what the call was about, and she claimed she was from an energy firm. I pointed out that our Chairman isn’t the one handling energy sales calls. She then got quite sharp and insisted she had been given the Chairman’s name by someone from another branch of our business - a name I’d never come across. Since I work for the company she phoned, I’m pretty sure I know the staff and who deals with what in a bit more detail than her. To any sales people reading this, take note: if you can’t bluff your way into a conversation with a top exec by dropping a familiar first name (which seems to be a favourite trick), then being rude or patronising to the ‘gatekeeper’ won’t get you anywhere.
