Just got a call about renewing our subscription to a motor trade mag. Since we work in that field, it wasn’t too surprising. From what I’ve seen before, some firms ring on behalf of other companies (like for mobile contracts) and aren’t trying to cheat you, just trying to drum up business. The thing is, if anything goes wrong down the line, you really need to deal with the original company yourself. So, this one probably wasn’t a dodgy call after all.

Got two calls this week, both times left messages with background noise like an office. I really don’t trust what they might be doing, so I just steer clear. Doesn’t matter if they’re from a call centre, they’re just annoying me. Like most people, I don’t want anything from them. I really wish everyone involved in these dodgy scams got scammed themselves, along with their nearest and dearest, down to the last penny. That’d be justice, wouldn’t it? My advice is simple - if the number isn’t saved in your contacts and you’ve got an answerphone, just don’t pick up. Seriously, if it’s something important, they’ll leave a message. Then just block those muppets from shows like Jeremy Kyle. Hope you all have a great day!

Had a woman ring me up saying she wanted to verify my info for getting the FT paper delivered. She seemed a bit rushed and there was a lotta background noise like she was in some sort of call centre. She already had my full name, work phone, work address and email. I told her all that was right. Then she went on to ask for the first two letters of the city I was born in. Not sure if that was a legit call or not.

Then they kept pushing for my surname, saying it was company policy or something? Why would they need that? If they’re really from that mag and know I buy it, they should already have my full name and address!
