The reason the line goes silent as soon as you pick up is that it’s actually a multi-dialling system. They ring multiple numbers simultaneously and only connect to the first person to answer. If you get yourself a BT phone for around thirty quid, you’ll have the option to block as many calls as you like. A decent investment!

This number rang me before on 07/12/2015, like I mentioned earlier, I dont answer because they pretend to be local which ive been tricked by before. I have all my mates and fam stored with unique ringtones so now I just leave it to ring out until they give up and hang up. They went on about solar heating, and I told them I was already sorted with that. To my astonishment, they assured me that I’d be removed from their calling list and wouldn’t hear from them again. But here’s where it gets quite peculiar - the very next day, I got another call asking for Mr Brown again, claiming they had a cheque from Lloyds Bank for £3,000 and needed my bank information to deposit the funds. And guess who it was? One of our delightful friends from India. So just a word of caution to everyone, stay vigilant!

I just had a rather dodgy phone call from someone purporting to be from the Energy Commissioners Office. They mentioned they were a government outfit conducting a survey about solar energy initiatives.
