Theres a new trick going round where scammers say they’re from Microsoft and try to take control of your PC for a bit, then ask for details. They’re really pushy and convincing. I got a call from a number that’s actually from a market research firm located in Newcastle upon Tyne. It’s one of those companies that gather opinions and data to help businesses understand customer preferences. They’re based near the Newcastle Helix area, if you know it, with the post code NE4 5TF. So, I signed up for the priority service register, and then National Grid went ahead and handed my phone number over to some third party without asking me. When I raised a complaint, National Grid claimed they needed my consent and shifted the blame onto OFGEM, saying it was their “order” to gather feedback.
