I don't reckon this was a scam - I told them I'd already checked and wasn't eligible for a new boiler under the government scheme. The lady on the phone was really polite, thanked me for my time and didn’t go on with a bunch of pointless questions.

Its not a scam, its an official gov scheme for folks on benefits without a mains gas boiler, giving them a chance to get a new boiler for free. That said, loads of different companies ring you up about it, so if you’re not eligible or not interested, it can get pretty annoying. If you decide to apply for a new boiler, make sure you jot down the phone number and company name. That way you’ll know it’s them ringing back once they’ve checked your claim, because other firms will still be calling about the same programme.
