Got a call on my phone from a woman who already knew my first name and that my smart gas meter wasn’t working properly. She asked a few questions, mostly about how easy it was to get to the meter and whether there were any pets or elderly people living here. Someone called saying they were from OVO energy (which we actually use). They knew my name and address and said the smart meter hadn’t been sending readings, so we’d need an engineer to come out. Booked a day and time with them, sounded convincing. But I checked with OVO customer service online and our meter is working perfectly. There’s no record of any call or faults on our account. I got a call from G4S, they work in the Utilities sector and are supposed to contact you about fitting a SMART meter. You can say no to this, but your energy firm must offer the option and they hire different companies to do the job. G4S is just one of the firms that might get in touch depending on who your energy supplier is. The call is genuine, and I personally turned down the SMART meter since I don’t think it offers much advantage. So no need to be worried about these calls.

got a letter and a phone call from this number trying to scare me into getting a smart meter put in. problem is, i don’t even own the house. this whole thing’s tied up with ttip and something called agenda 21 - just look that up on youtube if you’re curious. the letter said it’s legally required to have a smart meter now - but who’s making laws for britain, brussels in the eu? seriously, it’s time for britain to be independent again. vote to leave the european union - nobody wants agenda 21, thanks very much.

It turns out this call was from British Gas, who are in the process of swapping out outdated electric meters for snazzy smart ones.

Received a call, but the answer machine kicked in and they hung up straight away. On the second attempt, I actually got through, but there was silence on the other end. When I tried to return the call, I got a message saying, 'Apologies, this number is currently out of service.'

We returned the call as we said we would, but to our surprise, the line was completely silent. It appears to be related to meter services.

I've been receiving messages claiming they're from my estate agent, stating they need to conduct a smoke alarm test, and the company is apparently called 'Vibrant'. However, I'm a bit sceptical as I always get a heads-up from my agent before anyone reaches out for tasks like this. Until then, I'm holding off on trusting random calls that come out of the blue.

I've received a right nuisance of calls from this number on multiple occasions. The phone rings for just a split second before cutting out. I suspect it’s some sort of automated dialing system. Every time I attempt to ring back, I’m met with a continuous engaged signal. Quite frustrating, really!

I don’t have any dealings with British Gas, or gas for that matter! However, if this is about meter readings or something similar, I’ve just wrapped up a payment with my electricity provider. One would imagine they’d reach out through my online account or shoot me an email, right? Anyway, I tend to ignore calls from numbers I don’t recognise, so they’ll have to try harder!

According to various sources I've stumbled upon, it appears that this number is associated with British Gas, likely for purposes relating to either sales or the installation of smart meters. As we don’t actually use their services, I suspect it's just their call centre trying to peddle their wares.

I had a call from this number claiming to be my electricity provider. I fell for it, as they said they were scheduling a visit to update my electric meter, which is apparently more than a decade old. I even shared my mobile number with them! Now, I’m feeling quite anxious. The moment I hung up, I decided to contact my actual provider, and to my dismay, it wasn’t them at all!

I received a call from this number claiming to be G4S, acting on behalf of the Department of Work and Pensions. They seemed to be inquiring about one of my staff members, specifically asking whether he’s still employed with us and seeking to confirm his starting date. Quite peculiar, that!
