In September 2024, I kept getting calls from this bloke near Milton Keynes, annoyingly close to my number but with just one digit different. He kept banging on about female mutilation and kept trying to get me to say my name. Every single week he’d ask for donations and go on about needing my bank details, like sort code and account number. I usually ignore calls from strangers, but I slipped up and answered once in a long while. Lesson learned, I definitely don’t pick up unknown numbers anymore now.

I recently signed up to a Facebook cause about fighting female genital cutting, and then this bloke rang me up. He started telling me some facts and a story about a girl from Kenya, claiming they were doing amazing stuff. He asked for a donation of £1 each day, which adds up to £30 a month. It felt sketchy because he wanted me to fill out the "form" while on the phone, saying it’s easier that way for most people. I told him I'd rather check out a proper website first, but he kept pushing for me to give money right then. Be careful, it’s a scam! Don't get caught out!

Some bloke called me, claimed he found me on Instagram which is odd coz I don’t even use that app. He started jabbering about female genital mutilation, but I felt something was off. Then he tried to get me to promise a monthly donation, which would’ve meant handing over my bank info. I just ended the call and blocked the number straight away. Total scam, no doubt.

It seems they alter the final digit of their number whenever I’ve blocked them. I had signed an online petition regarding World Vision’s fight against child marriage, which is how they obtained my phone number.
When I requested them to refrain from contacting me anymore, the caller apologised and ended the call rather quickly.
