I received a call from an overseas chap who asked for me by name. He claimed it was all for some market research. I politely declined his offer, and just like that, he hung up on me!

I didn’t recognise the number, so I chose not to answer. If you happen to receive a call claiming to be from “HMRC,” just inquire the caller for their staff ID, since you’re supposedly an employee there. That should sort it out nicely. Odds are, they’ll just hang up on you!
