Got a call from a bloke named Austin who said he was with Total Energy’s metering team. He wanted to double-check our MPAN for one of the sites, saying our bills were wrong. When I said I couldn’t provide that info on the phone, he said they’d mark me as unhelpful on our account. I told him we already have a Total Energy account manager and any problems should go through them. The guy got pretty pushy, so I ended the call.

Got a call from someone claiming to be E-On. I mentioned that since our account got hacked recently, we set up a special password with E-On to confirm any genuine calls. The lady on the phone, who had an Asian accent, sounded sort of thrown and kept saying she needed to check with her teammates for the password. Don’t think they’ll bother calling back - or if they do, I doubt they’ll have the right password ready.

SCAM ALERT! NEVER GIVE OUT YOUR ACCOUNT DETAILS. I got a call from someone claiming to be Alex from British Gas. He asked me to confirm my account info and MPAN number. Then he said he'd put me through to a colleague, and handed the phone to a woman sitting next to him. When I said no way and mentioned we use a broker, they claimed the broker told them to contact us straight. I told them I’d ring British Gas myself for security, and they just cut the call. Stay sharp everyone!

I got a call from someone claiming I owed money on my utility bill, but it was a total con. Don’t get caught out by these scam calls. Best thing to do is just hang up straight away and block the number on your phone.

Got a call from 01905 570201, said they were from Octopus Energy trying to update their system because of some fault. They asked for my MPAN and all that, but weirdly, they had no clue who I was, no billing email or anything. Felt really dodgy, like a total scam attempt.

Got a load of calls from someone claiming to be my electricity company trying to get my account info to switch me over without asking properly. They just wouldn’t take no for an answer and kept ringing even after I told them to stop. Total utility scam!

Had a call from someone claiming to be EDF, saying they couldn’t give accurate bills because the meter wasn’t reading properly or the MPAN wasn’t found at our place. We’ve had these sorts of calls before. I said I’d check things with EDF through their online chat, but she said that wasn’t possible. Told her it sounded like a scam and started to hang up, then she cut off the call. This isn’t the first time - they’ve pretended to be British Gas, Eon, Scottish Power, basically every utility around. I’ve blocked the number now.

They rang me again today, which seemed odd since Scottish Power usually contacts us themselves about MPAN confirmations - we’ve been customers for years. I looked up this number beforehand and when I called SP, they said they hadn’t tried to reach us at all. Wow, I’m really happy I trusted my gut and blocked this caller! The guy pretended to be from Shell Energy and said he needed to check our account info. I told him I wasn’t happy sharing our details since I didn’t know the number, and I’d ring Shell Energy directly using their official contact instead. He got a bit annoyed and rude, insisting I shouldn’t do that because he was from the meter department and had to verify things. That’s when I just ended the call and blocked the number. After reading the comments here, it’s clear this was a scam!
