today, 23rd january 2019, at about 1:57pm i got a call on my landline, but as soon as my answerphone came on the line just went dead. super irritating.

An individual reached out, inquiring about the previous owner of my phone number and then proceeded to ask if I owned my residence. However, when I requested their identity, they refused to disclose it, prompting me to hang up. I’m inclined to think it’s a scam or some sort of phishing attempt.

I received a rather desperate call from an unidentified lady, who seemed to be quite the freeloader! It was amusing, though, as you could make out her co-workers chatting away in the background; they all appeared to be stationed in a call centre together.

About what was said earlier, the area code matches York, but it’s possible the call originated from overseas and was sent through York’s system, or maybe it was faked to look like it came from there. If your number has been caught up in one of those scammer lists, there’s not a lot you can do except maybe block all unknown numbers. But if you do that, you might end up missing calls from people you actually need to hear from.
