I told them my number’s on the TPS list and they shouldn’t be contacting me, then they handed me over to their “line manager” who just gave me the same spiel. The woman claimed she was from the PROFICIENT HELPLINE and asked if I’d been in a car accident. I told her that was wrong and she must have dialled the wrong number. Then they put me on hold with some classical music playing, so I just ended the call and blocked the number straight away.

I got a call from what sounded like a robotic system, using voice recognition to check if I’d been in a car crash or some sort of accident. The voice was clearly a pre-recorded British accent. If you respond correctly, it eventually puts you through to an actual person, and then you can try to ask proper questions or even get a bit rude if you want. I’m on the TPS list, but honestly, that didn’t seem to make any difference to them.
