5 yearsA gentleman with what sounded like an Indian accent rang me up, claiming that a charge of £39.99 for an Amazon gift card had been processed on my account, tracing back to a London postcode. He politely inquired about my day, and I decided to have a bit of fun, pretending it was rather dreadful (not a flicker of concern from him, mind you!). It was alarming, though, how he had my first initial, last name, address, postcode, and phone number all in hand. When he queried which person with my initial he was after-seeing as my son has the very same one-I explained that I actually do not own an Amazon account. He then probed further, asking if I was online. I cheekily replied, ‘No-I've switched it off to avoid those pesky waves messing with my head!’ His response was priceless; he clearly thought I was a bit bonkers and promptly hung up.
