I looked into it and found out it's actually an automated system that talks like a human but replies depending on what you say. Like, if you say "yes" or "ok", it'll say something like "I'll transfer you to my colleague" and then a real person takes over.

But if you say "no" or "haven't" or ask something back, it'll either keep repeating itself or go quiet until it gets a response it understands. They do it this way so a single computer can make thousands of calls and get a couple of real connections, which is way more efficient than having ten people dial and just get hung up on.

I got a call from this number and when I picked up, there was nothing but silence for a good few seconds. Then all of a sudden, someone shouted "HELLOOOOOOO" like they were overly excited to talk to me. The woman said her name was "Julie Smith" and said she was from Sigma Advice Service. She told me I'd apparently been involved in an accident that wasn't my fault. When I asked twice where she had got my info from, she suddenly cut me off and ended the call right away. Definitely going to report this.
