I saw this con on the BBC1 show ‘Scam Interceptors’ which you can watch on iPlayer. It’s both frightening and fascinating. Channel 5 has a similar series about frauds available on My5. These scams won’t end unless the reporting system gets swamped and breaks because of the sheer number of complaints. Supposedly, fewer than one in every thousand scam calls, texts, and emails actually get reported, though nobody really knows.
