Got a call saying they wanted to renew insurance for my washing machine. When I asked what brand it was, they claimed it was a Bosch. That’s not true at all - I’ve got a Hotpoint and I don’t even have insurance on it. Pretty clear this was just a scam.

I received a call from an Asian woman who somehow knew my name and informed me that the warranty on my washing machine, which I’d had for two years, had lapsed. She was quite courteous and wished me well when I mentioned that I wasn't keen on her offer. Interestingly enough, I had already renewed my warranty, extending it for three extra years! I got a call from a number starting with 01882, which seemed to have slipped through the Telephone Preference Service. A well-spoken gentleman with a noticeable Eastern accent asked for me by my last name, offering some kind of emergency alert system for elderly folks. Like someone else mentioned before, I worry this might be a scam aimed at vulnerable people. I told him the call was illegal and that I was hanging up. He tried to keep talking, but I cut him off straight away. The area code points to Kinloch Rannoch - but that’s definitely not where this call was really from!

This morning I got a call offering a washing machine warranty for £6.99 a month. Since my machine is already covered by the manufacturer's warranty, I was a bit suspicious. The lady on the line, who sounded Indian, chatted away for a bit before handing me over to another woman with a Germanic or maybe Dutch accent. She started asking for my bank info, which instantly made alarm bells ring. When I started loudly singing the Monty Python Spam song at her, she abruptly ended the call. Definitely felt like a dodgy scam to me!

Eventually, I told them exactly what I thought - they swore at me and then hung up straight away.

Got a call from a landline, number 01882 391183, about 10:15 this morning. The bloke on the other end said his name was Kevin, spoke with a pretty strong Indian accent. He was going on about how the warranty on my fridge had expired, but I’ve never even had an extended warranty for it. I just laughed and told him “Good one, Kevin!” before hanging up. Totally dodgy call, definitely a scam. Honestly, why isn’t BT doing something to stop these calls? Don’t pick up if you get it!

Got a random call about my car warranty outta nowhere, total scam. Never trust these warranty offers from unknown numbers!
3 years
I’m pretty sure this was a dodgy call, like others have mentioned. I nearly fell for it because my fridge warranty was actually about to expire - I even had a letter from the company, which made the call seem legit, especially with the Indian call centre noise in the background. But then I got suspicious when they asked if I was still using the same bank for my direct debit without actually naming the bank, and then wanted info to “continue the direct debit”. Surely if they were just renewing it, they’d already have that info? Almost got me, honestly!

I had a rather concerning call from this number earlier today. They were able to address me by my name and proceeded to pitch some sort of personal alarm device that one can wear around the neck to summon help in an emergency. It seems I'm inundated with these types of calls lately; most are concerning insuring my washing machine or warning me about potential fraudulent activity on my card, which is just stressful. As a 76-year-old lady, I truly find these calls quite overwhelming and wish they would cease!

Honestly, this is getting really annoying. Got a call for the second time in two days. The person said my washing machine warranty was up for renewal and they could extend it for 3 years. When I asked if it was free, they said no, it’d be £6.99 every month. I asked which brand they were talking about and they said “Bosch.” I told them I don’t own a Bosch at all. She was quite sorry about the mistake and quite polite before ending the call. Another number blocked now!

Clear scam alert. I’ve started doing something different - telling them that the people with our last name have moved away, but I do have their new phone number.
