10 yearsGot a call supposedly from TalkTalk, but the guy had a heavy Indian accent and was spouting the usual nonsense about my router having faults. They tried to say there were errors on my computer and wanted me to visit a particular website to download some file that’d fix it. Trust me, it’s a trick. That file just lets them get into your computer remotely and see all your stuff. Best thing to do is just hang up straight away and ignore whatever they tell you to do.TalkTalk10 yearsGot a call from some “Talkt” lot about my internet being slow, said I should be getting 50mb speed or something. Asked me to visit a website, but I told him I use a Mac, not Windows. That seemed to throw him off a bit. Now they're sending an engineer over Monday to check my setup, though I doubt they'll sort it all out. I won't be home anyway.Apple10 yearsI saw the number on my phone but didn’t have a clue who it was, so I let it ring out. Reading yesterdays comment made me realise I dodged a bullet. Looks like this was one of those scam calls, which seem to be getting way more common lately. Watch out for these!10 yearsJust like others have said, they rang up claiming to be from TalkTalk, my internet provider, which they clearly aren't - seems like outdated info on their end. They even called me by my wife’s maiden surname without asking any security questions. They went on about detecting some “weird data” from my location and reckoned it was down to viruses on my router. Honestly, I’ve never come across such a blatant try at scamming folks. I told them to get lost straight away.TalkTalk10 yearsGot a call from someone saying they were with TalkTalk. They told me to switch on my PC to look for viruses on the router. Sounded dodgy with the accent, probably from Bangladesh. They even messed up the name of the person who handles our broadband. Definitely a scam.TalkTalkBangladesh10 yearsToday, I received a rather suspect phone call from an individual purporting to be associated with some so-called "internet" firm. They claimed that a virus had been uploaded to the World Wide Web using my IP address, yet when I pressed them, they couldn't even provide me with that information! Instead, they insisted I disable certain Windows settings and download some dubious software to "resolve" the issue, with the sneaky caveat of having to "purchase" it later on. I suspect the number they were calling from is a premium rate one. So, I informed them that my number is registered with the TPS, told them their whole operation seemed dodgy, and insisted they remove my details from their list or they risked facing a fine. To my surprise, the person on the other end had the audacity to tell me to "bugger off" in a rather unprofessional manner. Honestly, my advice is to simply hang up, block the number, and forget about it entirely.World Wide WebTPS10 yearsI picked up the phone and was greeted by a chap with a pronounced Indian accent claiming to be from Talktalk. He went on about some hacking incidents and system breaches they were supposedly facing. At this juncture, I chose to hang up, as I'm all too familiar with this sort of spiel. It’s clear they’re after your email credentials with the intent to unleash malware or some other nastiness on your device. Beware of this sort of scam!TalktalkSubmit Your Own Report (01881 804321)
