The woman was quite courteous and even knew my husband’s name. She claimed to be from Home Security Solutions in Truro, but I found a company with the same name in Lancashire with a totally different phone number. She kindly offered to remove our info from her list without me even asking. Still, this felt a bit off - not your typical cold call. Like someone else mentioned, never trust security advice from an unexpected call - it’s just common sense!

A lady rang me from 0187 2672260 and mentioned her firm’s name (can’t recall exactly) and used my proper name and title. She said they were nearby fitting security cameras and wondered if I’d like a quote. I told her I already had two different tradesmen working in my home and felt too overwhelmed to talk about it. I said sorry, and I could tell she was a bit disappointed. Then I ended the call. I prefer to pick my own tradespeople. I’m not having cold calls, no thanks.

I only found out about these calls when I checked my call history, cause I didn’t catch them ringing in real time. They tried to get through on Tuesday, Wednesday and even twice today (Thursday). Got a call from some random number, they said they were BT and warned me about illegal stuff going on with my router, threatening to cut my internet in 24 hours. Naturally, I pressed 1 and got connected to someone who told me there was an issue with my router and they needed to get into my computer. Got a call about home security. They knew my surname and asked if I'm Mr something. Asked if I've got alarms or cameras installed. Said they'd be in the area soon and could drop by with a quote. Kept asking what exactly they're offering and all they said was "not selling, just giving free quotes." Never agreed to be contacted. Tried ringing back on Skype, and the number showed up as being from Truro, which fits the area code. Thinking of reporting it to the ICO.

Got a call from some home security company on 19/04/19, they knew my name and said i’d called them last year - which i definitely hadn’t. First thing they ask me is if I’ve got an alarm system at home, so I just ended the call. Weirdly enough, i bought a CCTV setup from Screwfix just a few weeks ago. Makes me wonder what they did with my info, considering i’d already told them no calls or letters. Not much of a privacy protection, is it?
