Had a rather peculiar call earlier - some chap claiming to be a local energy guru, all about loft insulation. It sounded like a recorded spiel, probably one of those sales tactics. Quite the odd distraction, really!

I was going through my Plusnet bill before switching to a different internet provider and noticed a charge of 60p. Normally, I let unknown calls go to voicemail, so I’m a bit puzzled how I ended up being charged the 60p for what looks like a scam call. I’ve never actually spoken to anyone about insulation, not once. So does this mean that the scammer just needs to call and get me or my answering machine to pick up, and they manage to earn money from that? It feels a bit unfair if that’s the case.

Got a ring from them earlier today, but they didn’t even bother trying to push past my call blocker number. Judging by what others have said here, it’s dodgy, so nice one to my phone for shutting them out! Have the BT Decor 2600 with TrueCall - worth every penny of the £24 I paid at Curry’s. Finally some calm and my missus is chuffed!

Got a call from someone claiming to be the local energy service for our area, but funny enough, they never actually said which company or postcode they were talking about, and their number showed up as Oxford while we’re clearly in Wales. They tried to act like we’d dealt with them before and said they’d booked a time to check our loft insulation. It felt a bit dodgy, like it could’ve been a robot voice changing based on what you say. I put a stop to it pretty quick when I challenged them.

A bloke called about insulation, offering a free survey to check for damp or heat loss. He kept on asking if I was the homeowner, but I just didn’t reply. I told him I’m happy with the insulation already and that the space upstairs isn’t used for storage. Then he asked how old I was - I didn’t give him that. After putting it so many ways that I wasn’t interested, he asked for my name so his manager could get in touch. I just said he clearly hadn’t a clue who he was talking to. Then he hung up.

Had a call from 01865679015 but was lucky, was having a bath so didn’t pick up! Managed to block it using 1572 and Call Protect now. The annoying thing is these scammers just tweak the final digits of the number constantly. It’s a shame there’s no way to block numbers using wildcards like stars (#) for the last few digits. That way, if you don’t recognise calls coming from “Oxford” or similar spoofed places, you could block loads more junk calls easily.

I got a call with no voicemail left. When I dialled the number back, an automated message said it was from a market research firm. You could press 1 to stop getting calls, which I did straight away since it was my work phone ringing. I’ll keep an eye out for this number if it rings my home later on.

To top it off, the phone number originates from Oxford, which is quite a distance away from us. They insinuated that we’d previously engaged their services and that a visit was necessary to assess the condition of our loft insulation. It’s all utter nonsense.
