Received a call from something called Microassyst Corporation about my computer. Is this for real or just a scam?

As soon as I attempted to call that number today, it was promptly blocked, which is quite amusing really, considering it's the same outfit-Micro Assist Corporation. The person I spoke to was insistent that our computer had supposedly downloaded a malicious file, claiming someone has been up to no good that could attract the ire of the authorities. She went on about calling from Toronto, insisting they were in cahoots with Microsoft. Honestly, what a load of nonsense! It's truly disheartening to think anyone might fall for this scam!

I just received a call from these individuals associated with our computer.

I recently received an international call from someone claiming to represent Micro Assist. They mentioned that my computer was supposedly infected with some dodgy files. Things took a turn when they asked me to hit the start button, to which I pointed out that we use a Mac here, and as far as we know, Macs don’t really suffer from viruses. Quite a laugh, really!

I just received a phone call from this number, claiming to represent a Microsoft Certified company. The individuals on the line insisted that we had unwittingly downloaded some incredibly potent malicious files-tenfold stronger than any virus known to man-and that our antivirus software would be useless against it. They tried to convince us to power up our computer so they could guide us through generating a report. When we pressed for their name and address, they provided Micro Assist Corporation, located at 146 Banbury Lane, Oxford, OX1 4HT. However, after a thorough search, we couldn't find any information about them, apart from this website. Stay vigilant!

Be cautious, my friends. Don't share any specifics. As previously highlighted in this discussion thread, request their Microsoft Registration ID. The moment you do, they'll likely end the call. Or, if you're feeling a bit cheeky, you could have some fun and toy with them-it's amusing to watch them squirm when they realise they're been duped!

My folks received a call from some chaps claiming to be affiliated with Micro Assist, boasting about their Microsoft Certification. They then went on to say that we’d have to fork out €89 to acquire some security software. They even went as far to say that our mum's files had a staggering 98.6% corruption rate. At that point, we decided to hang up. Could you shed some light on whether these callers had the capability to harm our mum's computer? Should we be worried about security for making credit card transactions on her laptop in the future?

I received two phone calls in one day from a firm named Micor Assist Corp. When I requested their physical address, they provided me with 146 Banbury Road, Oxfordshire, OX1 4HT. However, when I inquired about their registration number, they abruptly ended the call! I'm convinced this is a scam, so steer clear and don’t divulge any personal information to them!

Just the other day, our folks had an encounter with a rather dubious caller. Thankfully, these good Samaritans grabbed the number and reached out to us to clarify what the caller had claimed before our parents were ready to grant any access to their computer.

I recently received a rather dubious phone call from someone claiming to be a certified Microsoft affiliate. They alleged that our computer had been compromised and offered to assist in sorting it out. Naturally, they wanted us to comply with their step-by-step guidance for "de-hacking". When we asked for their name, they introduced themselves as Micro Assist. I expressed my scepticism and suggested they ring us back the following morning at 7 o'clock. After hanging up, we executed a *69 to retrieve the number, which was 514-874-1957, and proceeded to search for reviews online. Thankfully, we did, as the feedback was decidedly unflattering. I assumed they’d be put off and wouldn’t bother calling again, but to my astonishment, they actually rang us right at 7AM the next day. Honestly, are there any genuine businesses that adhere so precisely to a callback time? I reiterated my doubts about their authenticity and asked for their contact number, which they flatly refused to provide. They failed to convince us of their legitimacy, and after a brief back-and-forth, they abruptly ended the call. Just a friendly warning about such shady communications!

I wouldn’t advise following any instructions from these individuals. They certainly aren’t associated with Microsoft in any genuine capacity.

We've been inundated with calls from this lot, but it was just the other day that we finally managed to get their number. Thankfully, we didn’t take any action on it, yet we're rather miffed at how they managed to obtain our name and previous numbers. It's quite frustrating!

I received a call from someone who sounded Asian, claiming there was an issue with our computer. They insisted we log in and give them our security ID number. When I asked which operating system we were using, they said Windows XP, but in reality, we've upgraded to Windows 7. I asked for a callback number and they gave me 01865589324. However, after doing a 1471 check, it turned out the number was withheld. Quite suspicious, isn't it?

Absolutely a con, without a doubt! I've also received several calls from a so-called "Micro Assist Corporation," claiming to be located in Glasgow, Scotland, yet their accent was distinctly Indian. On the first call, I decided to humour them and let them ramble on. They instructed me to press the Windows logo and R keys simultaneously. Despite not actually doing it, I told them nothing seemed to have occurred. We repeated this little routine a few times, with me insisting that nothing was happening. Eventually, they escalated me to their so-called supervisor, and we went through the same tedious process all over again. After wasting about five minutes of their time, the supervisor finally inquired about the brand of my computer, to which I cheekily replied, "It's an Apple Mac." He burst out laughing and promptly ended the call. I assumed that would be the conclusion of our little game, but lo and behold, they rang again just two days later! So, I thought, why not waste another five minutes of their time? I'm eagerly anticipating the next time they decide to ring me up!
