They tried saying I hadn’t made any claims in the past year so I could get a 35% discount. Just as I picked up, a mate rang me on my mobile, so I put them both near each other and let my friend listen in. For a laugh, I played along with the scammer for a short while, then told them I’d pay the same as last year, which was basically nada.

WARNING - Got a call and they were asking for Mr G! Thing is, this Mr G moved out ages ago, over 20 years since the divorce! They mentioned something about home appliance insurance right away. Some bloke called 'Warren' rang up saying he was from Domestic & General about renewing my household appliance cover. He seemed to know I hadn’t signed up in the past year and said the prices would stay the same. He had my surname, address and postcode down but started asking what appliances I had in the house. That made me uneasy so I ended the call. Later this morning, 3/8/2022, I received emails about the same thing.

I got a call from a woman with quite a clear English but with a foreign accent. There was loads of background noise like people chatting and moving about. She claimed she was ringing from Domestic and General about renewing the insurance on my washing machine. I told her I didn't have any insurance for it. Then she insisted I did and mentioned a special discount if I renewed straight away. I told her I wasn’t interested, even with the discount offer. Sensing it might be dodgy, I just hung up the phone.

It was odd because she knew my name, address, and which appliances I supposedly had covered - which freaked me out since I actually have a policy with a different company. Just a couple of posts down show you ways to help put an end to these scams and explain why simply blocking might not do the trick. Reporting these calls is just as quick as leaving a comment here. It won’t stop the calls straight away, but the police still haven’t got the full picture of how bad this scam situation is, or the newest scams being tried out. If everyone who sees these calls and messages doesn’t report them and complain to their local MP, nothing will change and these thieves will just keep going.
