Callers try to get victims to switch on their PCs so they can supposedly help, but are actually after access. One caller had an Indian accent and tried to charm the recipient by commenting on their voice and asking personal questions. The numbers used are different but the tactics remain the same. Recipients are suspicious as they dont even have BT as their provider. The calls are persistent and two separate numbers have been used. Overall, it is a known phishing attempt targeting broadband users with alarmist security claims.

I had a rather similar experience as noted before. They claimed to be from BT and insisted that my internet was under attack between 4 and 5 in the morning, urging me to power on my computers. Naturally, I didn’t comply. Curiously, I received an identical call just the day prior, but from a different number, 01394850947. Quite the coincidence, isn’t it?

I received a call purporting to be from BT, claiming that my broadband security had been compromised, even mentioning particular times from the previous night. I decided to humour the caller, even though I’m not a BT customer. He then requested that I access my computer so he could assist me further. That’s when I revealed I was onto his little ruse. The caller tried a rather feeble attempt at flattery, inquiring about my age and complimenting my 'soft' voice (I’m a woman, in case you hadn’t guessed). He had a distinct Indian accent. Eventually, I just let the receiver dangle until he got fed up and hung up himself.
