I've been receiving calls from a number that I don't recognise, and to be honest, they're rather bothersome.

That automatic recording was definitely a dodgy attempt at scamming! It was an artificial voice, purporting to be from the Visa Fraud Department, warning me about some suspicious transaction on my account. They wanted me to hit ‘1’ if I required help. All rather fishy, if you ask me!

Got a voicemail saying it was from Visa or Mastercard about a £600 charge on my card, and it told me to press 1 if I wanted help. Total scam, as always. No legit bank would ever call you with a recorded message about that sort of thing.
