I just got a call from a lady speaking with a US accent claiming she was from BT. She said my internet was about to be cut off because of some interference out in California! She told me to press 1 or 2, so I hit 1, but after that, strange noises came through. I hung up and then rang TalkTalk straight away to let them know about that number. Since I don’t use BT for my internet, it wasn’t too believable, but it was definitely a new kind of scam call I hadn’t come across before.

The phone rang a handful of times over the course of two hours. When I finally picked up, a robotic American voice informed me that my BT account had been breached and that they could assist me in resolving the issue. I promptly cut the call.

Got a ring from some lady with a heavy accent claiming to be from BT Openreach. She said my IP was showing up in loads of countries, like China and Japan, and that if I didn’t let her run some test on my PC, they’d just cut off my landline! What a load of rubbish. Honestly, they must reckon everyone’s daft enough to fall for that nonsense!
