I honestly didn’t imagine I’d fall for a scam like this. It wasn’t until he was still chatting away on the phone that I realised what was going on - at the same time, I was moving my cash between my bank accounts on my mobile. They claimed to be from BT Openreach, and since I’m actually changing my service to them next week, it seemed legit. Lesson learnt the hard way! BE CAREFUL - I ended up losing access to my online banking and had to get my laptop completely wiped!

Got a call from someone with an Asian accent telling me to switch on my laptop to stop my broadband cutting out. They also promised a bill discount while they sorted things out. Pretty clear it was a con.

Got a call from someone with an Asian accent claiming to be from Openreach, saying my internet was running slow. I asked for my BT account number since I’m not even a BT customer. He said he didn’t have to give it to me. I told him straight up he sounded like a total scammer and then I ended the call. Felt a lot better after calling him out on it.

I never expected to get caught out like this - but as soon as I got suspicious and he was still chatting away, I was actually moving money between my accounts on my phone! They claimed to be from BT Open Reach, which I am actually changing to next week, so that’s why it seemed legit at first. BE CAREFUL - I ended up losing access to my online bank and had to get my laptop completely wiped!

Got a call again about my internet being slow. This bloke wanted me to hit ctrl & r on my keyboard and then explain what popped up. He said he needed my licence number too. I asked for his company’s address and a phone number. He just rattled off BT’s main office address but didn’t want to give a contact number. Managed to keep him chatting for a bit longer and even asked about the guy who called me last week from the same “team” and called me a proper idiot. After wasting enough of his time, I finally ended the call. How do they put up with this all day long?

I never pick up calls from numbers I don’t recognise, especially if they look like they're from abroad. This number showed up as international, so I just blocked it straight away. Easy choice really, better to be on the safe side than risk it! If it’s not someone I know, I just ignore it.

I got a call from someone saying they were from BT internet, but it was obviously a scam. When I said "really?" he just kept repeating "really, really." So I asked if he actually thought I was daft, and he went ahead and called me a very stupid woman. I didn't hang about after that - I told him to bugger off and slammed the phone down.

Similar to what others mentioned, I got a call from a man with a thick Indian accent. After the usual chit-chat like “how are you,” he claimed to be from BT Openreach and said there was an issue with my internet. He went on about the connection being slow and offered to help upgrade it - yeah right! I quickly told him I wasn’t convinced he was really from BT and ended the call. This is the second time in a few days I’ve had one of these “problems” with my broadband calls, so the scammers are definitely back at it. Stay careful!

Got a ring from some bloke in an Indian call centre claiming to be Openreach, saying my broadband was running slow and I needed to log in on my laptop. I listened for a few moments, then told him to piss off. These kinds of scammers need to be put in their place, honestly. We really ought to stop putting up with this nonsense. Not having any of it.

Got a call from an Asian woman claiming to be from BT Openreach about an issue with my internet. I told her she wasn't really from BT, and she asked how I was so sure. I told her if she were genuine, she'd know I’m not even a BT customer. Just as I was about to ask if she’s proud of scamming people for a living, the line went dead with a loud crackle. Honestly, these scammers are just the lowest scum you can imagine.

Yesterday, on the 9th of June, I got a call from a number I didn't recognise, it came up as 07790044938 and the caller introduced themselves as 'INTERNATIONAL'. I had no idea who it was and definitely didn’t want to answer it. Total unknown and unwanted!

Yeah, like someone else mentioned here, this bloke called with an Indian accent claiming to be from BT outreach, saying my internet was running slow. I let him go on for a bit before he asked me to log into my PC. I just quietened down and next thing, he ended the call.

Got a call from someone claiming to be from BT, but the voice sounded African. He told me my internet would be cut off for 25 days, which seemed a bit strange. When I asked why, he went on about some kind of corruption build-up on the lines. Then he asked if there was a red light showing on my TV. I told him the TV was switched off and that I'd check it later, then ended the call. My provider isn’t actually BT, so I thought if there was a real issue, they’d have got in touch, not BT.

Received a ring from 01829784516 and a woman with a thick Indian accent introduced herself as being from BT. She started off by asking how I was. I replied it was thoughtful of her to check on me but asked what the call was about. She said there was an issue with my broadband. When I pointed out that BT don't provide my broadband, she just hung up. Just 12 minutes before that, I got a similar call from 01453290155, also someone pretending to be BT, and I've already reported that one separately here.
