just so everyone is clear, call centres usually have a system where a machine automatically rings a bunch of numbers. once someone answers, it hands the call over to a person at the centre. if no one's available to pick up at that moment, the call gets dropped pretty quick and the machine moves on to ring the next number. this keeps happening until they finally get someone on the line.
