Got a call from a woman speaking with an Asian accent, claiming she was from the BT Openreach tech team. She asked me to check my internet speed online. I told her we’re a company and our internet is managed by third-party providers, so BT Openreach wouldn’t contact us directly. When I asked her for any Circuit ID numbers tied to our connection, she suddenly went silent. Pretty clear that was a scam.

Barely had I ended the call when ‘Brian’ from ‘BT Internet’ rang me again. When I mentioned I was about to hang up, he put me through to his ‘supervisor’. It turned out to be the same bloke, but talking more slowly this time. Oddly, he claimed he was calling from British Gas! When I told him I don’t have a gas account, he lost it, started swearing, and even said I needed to be locked up in some mental hospital. Really shocking behaviour.

This was definitely a scam! I’m employed at Openreach and the call actually landed on a line inside a Telephone Exchange. When I questioned the caller, they just ended the call straight away. Really dodgy.
