Don't bother replying to these lot. I actually enjoy having a bit of fun with scammers by playing along. This one claimed to be from BT, but had a strong Indian accent. He said my internet had a serious problem and was gonna be cut off. I told him I'm not even with BT, then he asked for my mobile number. I cheekily asked if he wanted my bank details as well. He said yes, so I told him where to shove it and ended the call. Really feel sorry for folks who end up getting tricked by these scams.

This problem aint gone away. I got the exact same call. They said some bloke named John Crawl from California was somehow using my IP address. I even told the chap my phone and internet are through a totally different provider, and everything is under my husband’s name! The moment I mentioned my number is on the TPS list and accused him of using my details without permission, he just hung up straight away.

Got two calls from them - first one ended just before I could pick up. Right after, they rang again but all I heard was silence then a robotic voice saying “Goodbye”. So yeah, blocked them. Yesterday I had a call with a hidden number, just like some others mentioned. I told whoever it was that it’s obviously a scam and they should find a legit job.

Got a call from a bloke with an Indian accent saying he was from BT’s tech team. Got two calls this week, first one was silent with no one talking. Then this morning, some guy with an Asian accent said he was Pete Williams from BT, threatening to disconnect my internet tomorrow. I told him I wasn’t a BT customer, but he insisted BT was the main provider and it would affect me anyway. I quickly worked out it was a scam and ended the call. He rang back asking why I hung up, and I told him I suspected a scam and would report him. He just said he was still going to cut my internet off and then dropped the call.

I had a pretty similar call too. The person said they were from BT's tech support. They told me my internet was hacked about two weeks back by someone in California and that my connection would be cut off by tomorrow. When they asked me to go online and check, I requested their location and got some dodgy address like 81 Newigate Street, with a total fake postcode in South London. I’m now handing all the info over to someone in BT’s security team.
