Somebody called me claiming to be from BT, swearing she was legit. I wasn’t convinced straight away, so she threw out a BT number, 0800400400, for me to ring and check. She also mentioned BT had a load of numbers, and said she wouldn't be able to chat with me unless I ringed her back on 01793593042.

Got a ring from a bloke named Peter claiming he was from BT, really insistent about me renewing my contract. He sounded a bit dodgy, so I asked him for his phone number to call him back. He gave me 01793593042 and said his name was Peter. Later, I used 1471 to check the caller ID and got 08003289937 instead. Neither of these numbers have anything to do with BT whatsoever. Bewarned, this is definitely a scam! Always verify who’s calling before agreeing to anything.
