Yet another dodgy phone call. An American voice, all robotic and recorded, blaring about ‘suspicious transactions on my Visa card’. I was rather preoccupied, so I cut the call short before it even wrapped up. I absolutely refuse to engage with such unsolicited nonsense. Even if it were somehow legitimate (which I highly doubt), banks and credit card companies are obligated to rectify any fraudulent transactions that happen. If it were authentic, I’d expect to speak to a real person who would advise me to ring up the company on a well-known public number instead. If they ring me and then demand personal details - forget it! You called ME, so it’s only fair you prove who you are first. And don’t even try to use “Data Protection” as an excuse! These scammers thrive on catching people off guard when they’re least prepared. If you’re ever in doubt, do yourself a favour and call the company directly using the number they’ve advertised publicly. NEVER reach out to these charlatans, no matter how convincing they might sound. Sadly, reporting these incidents to the authorities is pretty much pointless. They seem far more interested in catching the easy targets for their ‘Crime Solved’ stats - like snagging a speeding driver - than actually putting in the effort to investigate a telephone scam. It’s all about stacking up those performance points for them!
