Received a curious inquiry regarding my mortgage in Woolwich. When I mentioned that I was satisfied, considering my bank manager was involved, the caller suddenly questioned if she had faced any penalties for mis-selling and promptly terminated the call. I attempted to return the call, but every time, they kept cutting me off. Quite the suspicious behaviour, isn't it?

My stepdad got a rather peculiar call from this lot, claiming he was listed as a contact for a mortgage that I’ve never even considered, as I don’t have one! When I attempted to ring them back, there was no ringing tone - it just dove straight into some hold music. Occasionally, a voice with an American twang would chime in, insisting I stay on the line because my call was of utmost significance to them. I was kept waiting for about five minutes before I received a rather abrupt message saying 'goodbye', and just like that, the line went dead. This has happened multiple times now! The irony is, I’ve never applied for a mortgage in my life, and I haven’t even got my stepdad’s number stored in my contacts! What a strange situation!

Last night, I received a rather dubious call from these folks, who claimed that they have a recording of our conversation. They informed me that I might have been mis-sold my mortgage and could potentially reclaim a tidy sum of money. When I inquired about their regulatory credentials, they pointed to the Ministry of Justice. I felt compelled to mention that I work in finance and that they certainly had no authority to suggest I had been mis-sold. After that, I decided to terminate the call. However, they promptly rang me back. I missed the call, so I returned it and found myself listening in on what sounded like a sales pitch directed at an elderly lady from Wales. When I questioned why I was overhearing her conversation, they promptly cut me off. Quite the experience, I must say!

Today, I received a string of phone calls, and upon picking up, I discovered it was a firm named CCS Advice. I reminded them that I’m registered with the Telephone Preference Service and expressed my desire to know how they had acquired my personal details under the Freedom of Information Act. They then escalated my call to a floor manager who claimed they were operating from a ‘null database’ and couldn’t pinpoint the source of my information. When pressed for the company's address, he outright refused to provide it. I cheekily mentioned that I might swing by for a face-to-face chat as I happened to be working in Bristol. At that point, I was met with threats, as he boasted about his managing director being a rather imposing figure who would “sort me out.” I asked whether he was implying physical threats, and he promptly disconnected the call...
