Got a call earlier today from someone saying they were ringing for the fire brigade and inviting me to an event this Thursday evening in High Wycombe. They said it was about the local fire service and mentioned a £40 token, though not sure if that meant cash, a cheque, or a voucher, as a thank you and to help with travel costs. First off, you've got the wrong person, second, I never reported any burglary, third, if you want to send someone round to clear out the mess my ex left behind, that'd be great, and fourth, no way would I report that. I got a call a sec ago claiming they were carrying out research for Paxo about a car sharing scheme for folks without a car or those who can't use public transport. When I asked where they got my number from, the person just said it was for research but wouldn’t say how they actually got it. A guy called from this number and he was quite polite actually. Said he was conducting a survey for Merseyside Fire service and needed a number of men under 55 to take part. Told him there was no one here, so he ended the call nicely. Bit odd that a Swansea number is ringing for a Merseyside group. I think I’ll just ignore this number if it calls again.

Picked up the phone and could hear loads of giggling in the background. They claimed to be carrying out a survey about the North Wales police and asked if I could spare 10 minutes for a questionnaire. Then he asked if I was over 16 - bit weird, like he didn’t already know. I just hung up. Rang North Wales police straight away, told them what happened, and they said it’s a scam, told me to block the number and they’d look into it. Maybe it’ll be useful for others like it was for me to look through the messages left by others and check out the Green - Safe ones. Turns out it’s a Survey Company and someone posted a message that’s the same as what you hear when this number rings you or you ring them. To stop the calls, you just need to drop them an email saying you don’t want any more calls - [email protected][###][###] - I’m gonna give that a go.

I got a call from the council claiming to do a fire safety check, but it felt like some kind of con survey. Seemed a bit dodgy to me.

They said they were some kind of "governing body," but it turns out they’re just Opinion Research Services (ORS). Really irritating.

Got a call from this number claiming they were from the council. Didn't think council people worked so late in the evening. Definitely seems like a scam to me.

Today I got a call from a woman who said her name was ###. When I hung up, I tried calling the number back but just got a message saying all lines were busy, so to ring again later. I haven’t had any cold calls for years, but ever since I got back from Lanzarote last week, I’ve already had four. Weird thing is, the only company with my home number is TUI.

This number seems to be linked to a genuine survey firm, I found that out after googling. The weird part is, their site says the only way to get them to stop ringing you is actually to pick up and tell them yourself. Because of that, I've just gone ahead and blocked the call.

Got a call earlier from someone named Chris who said he was with Ofwat, the water watchdog, wanting to talk to our accounts manager. When I asked for a number to call back on, he wouldn't give one, saying it’s against their rules. At first, I almost believed it was genuine, but after looking it up here, it turns out this number’s connected to loads of scammers!

Today at about 2.58pm, I got a call from someone asking to talk to the owner of the business. But this is my house, not a business! They claimed to be from United Utilities or something like that.

someone rang saying they were with north wales police... i got a bit suspicious when they started asking for my age, postcode, and name... i told them to just cancel the survey cause i wasnt comfortable but they said no once id already given my postcode... turns out it wasnt the police at all, just some market research thing... lesson learnt, hope u all stay sharper than i was!

Just got a call from 1792 824661 saying they were from the Met Police, looking into a recent theft. They asked about how the police handled the issue. They sounded really polite and seemed to be doing their job properly - definitely not a scam. I didn't pick up the first time, but after looking on here, I took the next call.
