During a recent phone call, I received a call from Sharon, who claimed to be from the call blocking service associated with BT, Sky, Virgin, and other providers (none of which I am subscribed to). As an Indian representative, she went on to talk for a while before requesting confirmation that my Visa card would expire in 2019, as it supposedly served as my customer ID. Naturally, I didn't provide any such information. When I inquired about the specific supplier they had on record for me, she abruptly ended the call. I hope my goal of keeping her on the line for as long as possible helped prevent someone else from falling victim to this scam.

A woman calling herself Sharon, claiming to be from some call blocking service linked to BT, Sky, Virgin, and a whole bunch of others (which I’m not even a customer of), was on the line. She went on for a few minutes before asking me to verify that my ‘Visa card expiry date is 2019, as that’s the ID for my account’. I only just understood after writing about the caller who never picks up that this is actually a trick to get you to admit you've had "nuisance" calls! They latch onto that so they can claim they’ll stop them for you. It’s a proper scam, and older folks should watch out for this. I really hope someone investigates it, these people are awful and shameless. They’re clearly in it for the money and have even got others helping them run this con. Every call costs them something, so it’s all just rotten. 🐵

Just my opinion, but all these annoying calls and the way the caller ID is hidden makes me think it’s linked to some sort of organised crime, maybe involving trafficked Asian people forced into this by the main offenders. Someone’s clearly running a tight ship, using a list or something to call tons of numbers. If some call us with broken English, then there’s probably a mastermind behind it all - and they might even be English! Can't imagine the police will bother digging into this much. They ring me a few times most days, usually about three or four calls, then just cut off. It's really annoying, can't they be blocked or something? Such a pain!

I received a call from someone who had a foreign accent. This person claimed to have all of my bank information and insisted that I confirm my card number, as I supposedly make payments through direct debit. To my astonishment, the caller actually read out my bank card number, correctly stating the last few digits as well as the first few. When I finally mustered the courage to ask how she obtained my card details, she abruptly ended the call. I am now feeling quite frightened by this whole ordeal.

Absolute pests. They buzz me non-stop, repeating the same rubbish over and over. I’ve reported them to Action Fraud plenty of times, but it never seems to help. Every now and then, I ask them what made them think it was a good idea to waste their time like this. Then I remind them that Karma always catches up eventually, and hang up quick before they can even get their heads around it.

Got called three times in a row today, and they just wouldn’t accept a nice ‘no thanks’. Had to block the number in the end.

Today, I got a couple of calls from a bloke with an Indian accent claiming to be from the telephone preference service. He was going on about some direct debit that’s about to run out, which I’ve never signed up for. He wanted me to fetch my debit card, which actually expires in 2020, but I just put the phone down then. He’s called a couple more times since, but I’m ignoring the number now.

Absolute scam artists, the worst kind of people preying on those who can least afford it. We get bombarded with calls from these dodgy characters daily, and it really puts India in a bad light. Totally disgraceful behaviour from them.
