I received a call from 01792 496941, which they claimed belonged to HSBC. The caller had a rather convincing tone, and since I've never been a customer of theirs, I found the situation rather intriguing. It seems there’s been some cloning of the number, as it appeared on my iPhone. The person on the line asked for my date of birth and my online banking username. When I shared my birth date, they dismissed it entirely and pressed for my login details instead. I told him I didn’t have that information readily available, and the conversation escalated a bit. The individual then threatened that my account could be drained if I didn’t comply. In response, I instructed him to freeze my account, but he abruptly hung up. I’m nearly certain this was a scam. Please exercise extreme caution; it sounded remarkably plausible!

I rang them back to find out who had tried to get in touch, and they confirmed it was indeed them. However, they were rather vague and didn't offer any further details. Ended up costing me £1.45 just to uncover the fact that it was a scam!
