This number is from Shell Energy, used to be called First Utility. I used to work there so I can vouch for it being legit.

I picked up this number and was told it was a ‘welcome’ call from First Utility since I was supposedly a new customer. They asked me to verify my name and full address. It was true I’m a new customer, but I found it strange that she expected me to recite my personal info when she should already have that on her screen. I told her it seemed odd she rang me to ask for such details without me being able to check who she really was and then ended the call.

I just didn’t pick up the call. I’d contacted First Utility earlier for a gas and electric quote, and they told me their engineers would call me back later or the next day. So, it’s quite likely it’s really FIRST UTILITY after all.

Got a call earlier claiming to be from First Utility saying they had some good offers for existing customers and wanted me to confirm my address, phone number and account password. I said surely they’d already have all that if they’re calling me. Didn’t give anything away and then the guy said if I wasn’t gonna cooperate, he’d have to end the call. I said alright and hung up. Now I’ve blocked the number.

Phone rang when I wasn’t home. Sounded like an auto dialer cos the answer machine just made some long buzzing noise. Did 1471 and the recorded message said it was First Utility. Seems dodgy tho, so might be a scam. If it’s really First Utility, their way of reaching out is odd. And the other meaning of FU does pop into my head!!
