There was no message left when my answering machine kicked in – just an endless BEEP after the initial greeting. I typically avoid answering calls from numbers I don't recognise. Thank goodness for caller ID!

Gave Norwich a bell at 9:48 this morning. Ended up getting shoved to their voicemail. Not a dicky bird left behind! Could it be a scam, I wonder?

This chap insisted that the guarantee on my washing machine—an ancient relic at eight years old—was long gone. I mentioned rather cheekily that I don’t even own one and promptly ended the call.

The phone rang incessantly, and just as I was about to answer, the call ended abruptly after what felt like ages. A quick search online revealed that this number has been marked by others as a dodgy scammer. I've swiftly taken action and blocked the number.
