The other day, my home phone erupted into its delightful ringing, and given that I was thoroughly engrossed in the latest episode of Stranger Things, my initial inclination was to ignore it. After all, the only souls who ever seem to dial my landline these days are those pesky nuisance callers. However, the phone continued to ring on and on-three minutes minimum, I reckon. This relentless ringing made me ponder whether it might be an important call from a dear friend or family member. So, with great reluctance, I trudged away from the glowing screen, telling myself it was better to be safe than sorry. As per my usual routine, I picked up the handset and pressed it to my ear, opting for silence at first. It’s a clever little tactic of mine: genuine callers will always speak up, while the irritating scam callers tend to hang up, leaving a delightful silence. Just a mere three seconds ticked by-*click*! They had indeed abandoned the call, which only served to validate my suspicions about their dubious intentions. Honestly, these unsolicited telemarketers and con artists are an absolute pain! I truly wish there was a way to put a stop to them. I've even registered with the Telephone Preference Service, but to my chagrin, it hasn’t been any good at all. More often than not, I end up silencing my phone’s ringer altogether, as their incessant calls really do grind my gears!

I received a call today from the number 01782 345531. The caller mentioned my name and claimed to be representing a home improvement company. I simply informed her that I wasn't interested and ended the conversation.

My landline got a call from 01782345531 but it didn’t even ring because I have it blocked. Pretty sure it was just another scam call.

I was informed that I could qualify for some financial assistance for renovations, but upon mentioning that I’m renting, they quickly apologised and hung up. Such a letdown!

I recently received a rather intriguing telephone call from a woman who claimed that my postcode qualified for substantial funding-up to 40%-for improvements aimed at enhancing my home's energy efficiency. After a brief chat, I was passed to another individual who identified themselves as part of a company called Glazing Specialists, and we arranged an appointment. However, I found him somewhat insistent that my husband should be present at that same time. He mentioned that this funding was supposedly courtesy of the Glass and Glazing Federation. Curious about the legitimacy of it all, I phoned the federation directly, only to discover that they had no knowledge of such a programme. They instead recommended I reach out to FENSA and BFRC, both of whom were equally unaware of this supposed funding scheme. While I’m not outright claiming this is a scam, it certainly raises a few eyebrows and sounds a tad too good to be true. It could very well be a savvy cold-calling ploy. I've since contacted them to cancel the appointment.
