I received a call earlier today from a lady claiming to be from Microsoft, insisting that hackers had compromised my computer. When I suggested I’d seek help from PC World, she insisted that only Microsoft had the means to resolve the issue. I decided to end the conversation, but she rang me again, to which I firmly requested she refrain from calling me any further. Though her accent was distinctly American, I found it curious that the number resolves to Stoke on Trent in the UK. I’m not entirely convinced it’s a scam, but I’m certainly not about to grant any unsolicited caller access to my computer!

Someone rang me claiming to be from BT Openreach discussing my internet speed. They insisted I download an app called TVQS, which is a screen-sharing tool similar to TeamViewer. Once I made it clear that I wasn’t about to let anyone take control of my device, they abruptly hung up. Typical scam, if you ask me!
