Received a call from this number with someone asking if they were speaking to #my name#. They hung up right after that. Tried looking up the number but found nothing about who's behind it. Won't ring back just in case it's one of them numbers that bill you.

I decided to ring this number to see who kept calling me repeatedly. Every time I called, there was this endless message saying “please hold - we’ll be with you shortly,” but nobody ever picked up or said who they were. I reckon it’s probably some sort of cold call centre. It also seems likely that the number’s been spoofed so the caller ID looks local, but the call’s actually coming from somewhere else. Getting constant calls with no ID and that fake “please hold” spiel feels like harassment to me.

Since Monday, the number 01780698414 has called me six times but never left a voicemail on my answerphone. I’ve got a new BT Guardian phone, which makes leaving messages super easy, so it’s weird they didn’t bother. I got the BT Guardian because I kept getting calls from various people over six days asking for my husband, who supposedly completed some questionnaire back in May 2017 - but he’s been dead for over two years now. This number is local to where I live too.
