Got a call that showed my own area code on the display. After I answered, there was that typical long pause, then a poor quality, garbled woman’s voice with a British accent said there’d been some dodgy activity on my credit card and I needed to call them back on a certain number. I’ve heard that spiel before, so it was clear straight away it was a scam. The only thing different was the local number they faked. These scammers keep getting trickier and sneakier.
