I received a call from 01772856, but thankfully BT Guardian intervened and has now blocked the number for good. Over the last four days, I've been bombarded with a total of four calls from this number. Considering the numerous complaints already filed, I decided to reach out to ACTION FRAUD for assistance. Honestly, I would have expected this landline to have been shut down by now. - from Dorcil

Every day without fail, I receive a call from someone purporting to be from TPS. There's something rather enjoyable about holding a personal alarm right up to the phone while they're yakking away!

It's quite hilarious, really, how these individuals react when you begin to confront them. They have this habit of abruptly hanging up the phone as soon as things get a bit heated!

Feels like I'm chatting with a call centre somewhere in India or Pakistan. Just the same old nonsense as has been mentioned before. Honestly, when are we going to put an end to this nuisance?

This has all the hallmarks of a call centre from either India or Pakistan. It’s much like the nonsense that's been reported here before. When exactly will we be liberated from this pestilence?

Similar to what others have mentioned, I received a call from someone claiming to represent TPS, stating they could enhance my service. The caller had a noticeable Indian accent and inquired whether I was still getting unwanted calls and what sort they were. They claimed they could halt any future bothersome calls. They even knew my name and address! The caller mentioned that because I pay my phone bill via direct debit, an upgrade to my TPS account was possible. However, when they started probing for confirmation about me being a pensioner (which I am definitely not), they seemed to get flustered and fumbled their script. Then they requested my bank card's expiry date, asserting I had previously shared this information with TPS as a security measure. I firmly told them that this information had nothing to do with TPS, and I refused to divulge any details. Eventually, the caller cut the connection! It's incredibly irritating to receive calls like these. I've gone ahead and reported this number to the ICO through the TPS website. - Caller: Allegedly from the Telephone Preference Service.

I've received three calls from this number today alone. Each time, whoever's on the other end abruptly disconnects as soon as the voicemail kicks in. Apparently, this number is based in Preston, specifically within the PR2 postcode area.

I receive a call from this number daily, and each time I pick up, all I get is silence. After a few moments of dead air, an automated voice chimes in with a cheery "goodbye." It's becoming quite irritating, to say the least!

I was visiting my dear aunt, who is a sprightly 89 years old, the other day, and within a mere three-hour window, she got four calls from 01772497856! To make matters worse, each one was utterly silent. You see, she always waits for the other person to say something before she engages, and at her age, she shouldn’t have to deal with this nonsense. Not to mention, she’s signed up with the Telephone Preference Service. I have pals who swear by their Call Guardian, which has successfully eradicated all those bothersome sales calls, as it only permits calls from familiar contacts. - Caller: 01772497856

Had a right old chinwag with a chap named "Peter" today, his English was quite a mishmash! He claimed to represent TPS and said they’d managed to block all my nuisance calls for a whole year, but since that time had flown by, I’d now need to cough up some dosh.... I've come across a rather dodgy call purporting to be from the TPS, insisting they required my expiry date and the three-digit security code from the rear of my debit card. Quite ridiculous, considering this service shouldn't cost a penny! Do keep your wits about you, as sharing such information could give them access to your bank account! After I mentioned I’d be alerting the fraud squad, they promptly hung up on me. They’ve tried to reach me five times just this week! My advice? If you’re contacted by these idiots, make sure to ring the fraud squad on 101; they’ll provide you with the necessary contact information.

I've had a couple of calls from this number today, the 24th of April 2015, and they've been quite persistent all week. Each time I let the answerphone pick up, they seem to hang up without a word. Quite odd, really!

I've received three silent calls from this number, including one that claimed to be international - 001441772497856 - all within the span of an hour and a half today. It's absolutely ludicrous. I've ensured all instances have been reported to Ofcom. - caller: 01772497856

They purport to be affiliated with TPS and some government body, but it's clearly a con. I terminated the call immediately and have since added the number to my TalkTalk block list.

I received a call from someone who identified themselves as being with the Telephone Preference Service, suggesting that my registration required renewal. After looking into it, I discovered my number is still listed with TPS, and as far as I know, there hasn’t been any recent renewal. Just a heads-up-this could potentially be a scam aimed at extracting more personal information from unsuspecting folks. Stay alert!

It didn't take me long to figure out what was happening. I decided to humour them for a bit and fed them some phony information until my patience wore thin, at which point I sent them packing. It’s rather frustrating that the genuine Telephone Preference Service seems to be lacking in actually putting an end to these nuisances. - caller: 01772497856

Received yet another silent call from that same number today. It’s clearly some sort of auto-dialler, as there was nobody on the line when I picked up. According to 1471, the number that rang me was 01772497856. Just another instance from 01772497856, it seems!

I've received calls from this number on two occasions-first on the 20th of April, 2015, and then once more on the 21st of April, 2015. Can anyone shed light on who these callers might be?

I received a call from someone purporting to be from the TPS, but I sceptically declined their pitch and ended the conversation. To my surprise, they had the audacity to block my line, which left me waiting ages to make a phone call! - the caller spoke in rather poor English, pretending to represent the TPS.

I just received a phone call from someone claiming to be from the TPS, saying that my registration had lapsed. They wanted to verify my personal information in order to renew it. They rattled off my name, address, and phone number, stating that I pay my bill via direct debit, which I refused to confirm. Then they shifted the conversation towards my credit card, which I found rather puzzling when it had nothing to do with the TPS. They repeated my details again but were quite evasive when I queried them. I eventually decided to end the call and checked the number; it turned out to be 01772 497 856. Sent from my iPad - caller claimed to be from TPS.

Just had an odd experience with a call I received. I requested their number for verification purposes, and the number they provided was 0800488225, which appears to be non-existent. After that, they abruptly hung up on me. Interestingly, my call log shows 01772497856, so I've gone ahead and blocked them. - Caller ID: 01772497856

Received a call earlier today. When I picked up, a woman with a rather thick accent asked if I was Mrs X. I told her she had the wrong number, and then she abruptly ended the call. I used the 1471 service and found the number was 01772497856. It seems likely she must've found the surname from some directory. We're registered with the Telephone Preference Service, and I'll be reporting this to Ofcom shortly. The number in question is 01772497856.

Does anyone know the identity of the caller from 01772 497856? They've labelled themselves as TPS, but I'm quite intrigued about who they truly are. Any insights would be greatly appreciated!

My mother received a call from someone claiming to be from TPS, suggesting they could enhance her service to prevent any more pesky calls. They pulled up her name and address, and mentioned that, since her phone bill is settled via direct debit, they could easily upgrade her account. However, when they inquired about her bank card's expiry date and the name embossed on it, she realised it was a con and wisely declined to share any details, promptly ending the call. It's left her quite anxious, as she believed they had more personal information than they actually did. I’ve reassured her that what they possessed was merely her name and address, information that can be easily obtained. Quite infuriating, really, and it’s sadly made my mum feel a bit on edge. :((
