Today, on 14/08/2015, I received a call with a recorded message asking if my washing machine was over a year old. Usually, I just hang up straight away on these dodgy calls and get on with whatever I was doing. I figure since they’re making the call, they’re probably paying for it, so why not rack up their bill a bit? When it comes to those calls about my computer running slow, I handle them differently. I try to keep the person on the line for as long as I can, pretending I’m struggling to catch their website address. Just before I type it in, I say something like, "I’ll call Microsoft to check if you’re a genuine tech advisor." Usually, they hang up straight away after that. The longest I’ve kept one of those lot talking is 35 minutes. Sure, it wastes a bit of my day but at 82, a bit of amusement now and then isn’t a bad thing!

Got these automated calls about cleaning ovens, sounded like a total robot on the other end. They must have some autodialer blasting numbers non-stop. They just go down the list in order (no need for any fancy number database) but it’s still cold calling, which I thought was illegal. So if that’s true, why don’t they slap on some hefty fines? They don’t, so they’ll probably try to end the call quickly. Just make up some story like you exploded baked beans and eggs inside and you're not keen on having it cleaned. It’s a bit of a laugh to mess with them!
