Got a call from National Oven Cleaners, an automated message calling me twice within 30 mins yesterday. I pressed 1 to get a quote and figure out who it was. When I asked where they got my number, they just hung up on me. I’m on the TPS, so not sure why they keep bothering. No chance of finding their number on 1471, otherwise I’d be calling them back!

Today, on the 14th of August 2015, I received a rather peculiar call featuring a recorded voice inquiring whether my washing machine was older than a year. Typically, I respond to most of these dubious scams by simply hanging up and getting on with my day. I figure they must be footing the bill, so I do my bit to rack up their costs! However, I approach the calls about my supposedly sluggish computer in a rather different manner. I keep them on the line for as long as possible, feigning difficulty in understanding their web address. Just before I hit that enter key, I’ll casually mention, “I’ll just ring Microsoft to verify that you’re truly one of their tech experts.” That’s when the line usually goes silent. The longest I’ve managed to keep them chattering away is a whopping 35 minutes. Sure, it’s a bit of a time sink, but at 82 years old, I occasionally fancy a bit of amusement!

Got these automated calls about cleaning ovens, sounded like a total robot on the other end. They must have some autodialer blasting numbers non-stop. At one of my work sites, they rang nearly 800 times in less than a minute, starting from extension 100 and going all the way up to 898 straight away. They just go down the list in order (no need for any fancy number database) but it’s still cold calling, which I thought was illegal. So if that’s true, why don’t they slap on some hefty fines?
