The caller claimed to be from Amazon, stating that there had been suspicious activity on my Prime account and that, for my own safety, it would be cancelled. Since I’m quite a frequent user of Prime, this news really rattled me. Once the conversation ended, I decided to verify the claim and rang up an official Amazon number I found online. To my immense relief, they reassured me that this kind of thing just isn't the way they operate. It turns out I had been targeted by some chancers after all. The voice was a woman with an Asian accent, but there was that typical lag in the conversation which made me think it might be coming from abroad.
