Got a call saying it was HMRC, threatening me with arrest for supposedly owing tax. Then they tried to get me to hand over cash to sort it out. Total scam. I just blocked the number straight away!

I got a call from a bloke saying he was with the HMRC refund team. He asked for my name and address, which he seemed to know, then said I was owed some money. He even wanted my date of birth. I told him, having worked at HMRC before, that they never ring you up to say you’ve got a refund, they just sort it out automatically. Plus, I knew I wasn’t supposed to get any money back. After I said that, he just hung up. When I tried calling back, the number didn’t work, it said it was a wrong dial. Seems like a classic scam trying to get your bank details. Watch out for this one.
