On the 28th of May 2019, precisely at 10:47 AM, I received an automated phone call purportedly from BT, asserting that they had discovered an issue with my internet service. The automated voice urged me to press 1 to connect with an engineer, warning that not doing so would lead to the termination of my internet access. Naturally, I chose to hang up. Later that same day, I rang the BT customer service line. They confirmed that the number I had received the call from was indeed recognised by them as a scam. However, as I am not a BT customer, they declined to provide any further support. If BT is aware that this is a fraudulent operation, it raises questions as to why the number remains active. It might be high time for the authorities to take action against these scammers, with severe consequences for the service providers who permit such behaviour to continue. Surely, they must be held to account for turning a blind eye while profit is made from unlawful activities.
